Her design has her face all out of balance and weird–her eyes are too big for her face–and I wasn’t a fan of her voice. You do most of the fetch-quests in this game for her. She’s very smart, but quite changeable and doesn’t always remember what’s going on. She was also just fun to talk to, snarky and sarcastic and totally not buying the whole Black Cat thing, even for fun. She helped out the most as far as which other girls were suspicious and who you wanted to keep an eye on. Mel is a goth who plays cello and is pretty much amazing and my favorite character. I met them by who was closest to Corine’s room. She’s memorable, and amazingly well acted, and made me laugh.Īfter Corine and Izzy, you can meet the rest of the characters in any order. I actually really like Izzy, even though she is catty and rude and entitled. Next, we meet Izzy, the most popular girl at the school, and with all those delightful “Queen Bee” stereotypes. She’s kind of friends with one or two of the girls, but mostly chooses to focus on her studies. The first character we meet is Corine, who is our roommate and also a social outcast. This one is just about figuring out who’s pranking people in increasingly mean and potentially harmful ways. It feels like the last few mysteries were all about saving people–Bess, Matt, stopping a crime ring. I’m not super crazy about the girls’ boarding school setting, but I did like the characters a lot, and I liked that we finally had a low-stakes mystery again, where no one was in any kind of real danger. I’m happy to say that I am not displeased I bought this one. But I never got any further than that, for some reason (this maaaay have been around the time I dropped my computer in a large puddle on my way out of a coffee shop–and, consequently, around the time I decided desktops were probably a better option for someone so accident prone).

I bought Tale of the Twister around the same time, and not long after Captive Curse.īut for some reason, I never played the game. Let me know if you want your image credited or removed!īack when this game first came out, I saw and bought it at Target one night, out with my best friend, excitedly telling her how amazing these games were. And in the end, it’s never really more than just mediocre.

This game has its moments, and there are things I genuinely like about this game. 2/5, because it just didn’t click with me? 3/5, because there were strong elements I liked? I think in the end I have to rate it a qualified 2/5. And I have no idea what to rate this game. My memory of it from the first time I played it made it worse than it actually was. It seemed like it should have been better than it was. Over all, I was just very confused about this game.

But his plot didn’t really connect to the rest of the story. There are a few interesting sub-plots, particularly the one with Pa from the general store you frequent.

But on the other hand, the “filler” was presented in a fairly realistic way, with Nancy overhearing things and not understanding the full context. The pacing of the game was also off, making important things seem like filler. And normally I really like the well-integrated educational elements, but it just seemed obvious here–of course you need to learn about storms and tornadoes, you’re on a storm chasing team. There was also a lot of cool weather-related information worked into the game. But the game itself felt fun and easy to play, except for a few really overly hard puzzles. I was annoyed by the endgame, which felt like a rehash of several other games in the series. She’s a storm chaser! She’s into theater! She dragged half her team into theater with her! She’s heir to the project when Scott leaves! There was a lack of characterization, but I really liked Debbie, who was the most fleshed out of the characters in the game. I wasn’t overly fond of the Pa Pennies, but you didn’t need too many of them, and you can definitely do the bare minimum and only get the amount of them you need.

The puzzles were actually pretty good here. In a review of a mediocre game, I have trouble pointing out what I found lackluster. When you like something, defining what you like about it without giving the plot of the thing away is difficult.īut for me, the hardest reviews to write are the ones for games that are just mediocre. When you hate something, it’s easy to tell people exactly what you didn’t like about it. Many a reviewer has said this before me, and many a reviewer will say this after me.
